We had a chance to do a little exploring while we were in Georgia. I'm hoping we will have an excuse to be at Fort Benning again because there are a few things we didn't get a chance to explore, like Atlanta and Andersonville (sigh...) But we made the most of our time and had a lot of fun with my parents!
Here's some scenic shots around Fort Benning. It is gorgeous there!
It was a little rainy when I took these, but I loved all the architecture on post.
We went to a Chinese buffet in Columbus that was the best all-you-can-eat food I have ever had. The Southern hospitality stereotype is definitely true. Let's be honest, waitresses at buffets are notoriously bad. Our waitress was such a sweetheart. She told Amaya and Oaklie if they would tell her how old they were (they were being shy) she would go get their favorite color of gum ball for them. They were in heaven!
We took a little drive to see a plantation near Atlanta called "Stately Oaks". It was the plantation house that was Margaret Mitchell's inspiration when she wrote about Tara and Twelve Oaks plantations in Gone With the Wind. If you didn't know this about me, I am a big Gone With the Wind nerd. I've read the book three times and it is my favorite movie of all time.
We found Oakley Park on the way there!
Such a beautiful house! We weren't allowed to take pictures on the inside but we took some in the gift shop.
Yum. It's homemade.
Rhett and Scarlett salt and pepper shakers. They are on my Christmas list.
Back of the house.
So my mom was freaking out about the sticker balls that were everywhere on the ground. Apparently they were in North Carolina growing up? It was kind of a running joke that everywhere we went she was picking them up to take home. What did you end up doing with them anyway Mom?
We were sure sad to see these guys go home! Amaya screamed bloody murder when we went our separate ways, it was so sad. :( Thanks Mom and Dad for a fun weekend!
